A Trip to Auntie Em's

The kids and I just returned from an extended trip (we ended up staying an extra day due to weather) to Auntie Em's farm near Indianapolis. Jeremy's been busy prepping for his department's upcoming accreditation visit so it was helpful to him to have a little extra work time.  The boys loved exploring the farm, getting wet, muddy, and lost in their imaginary adventures for hours. We also visited the Children's Museum of Indianapolis one afternoon.  If you are ever in Indy it's worth a visit - hands down the best children's museum I've ever visited.  a little car fun at the museum  digging for fossils sticks really are the coolest toys such a beautiful view i love my book worms I know I've said it before, but I'm so thankful for my in-laws. It was very kind of Maca to invite us to tag along on her trip and Jeremy's sister, Emily, made us feel right at home. They are simply people who just know how to lov

A Beatrix Potter Inspired Birthday

For Little Lady's second birthday we threw her a party inspired by a few of her favorite books. We've had a collection of Beatrix Potter's stories in her room since she was a newborn so Peter Rabbit, Hunka Munka, and Squirrel Nutkin have become some of her fondest friends.  The guests were greeted by a Peter Rabbit inspired scarecrow that we made out of some scraps from the garage and an old coat and shoes. Since pre-made Beatrix Potter themed decorations were hard to find, and very expensive, we borrowed a couple things from Little Ladies room. We also put some streamers, scrapbook paper, and our printer to good use. old brown and squirrel nutkin made an appearance on our felt tree a wall full of storybook pictures and fun little lady memories Food was a brunch buffet: coffee, orange juice, mini quiches, berries, coffee cake, bunny tails (aka donut holes), and carrots with hummus.  Because most of the party guest

Valentine's Day

This Valentine's the kids woke up to the living room full of balloons. We also continued our tradition of hiding hearts as little love notes around the house for the kids to find. They were each assigned a color and had a blast running around hunting them down. Maca also came over in the morning with donuts and a few other treats and treasures. The rest of the day was pretty low key but that afternoon we did decorate some cupcakes. This marshmallow fondant recipe is amazing - it's tasty and as pliable as play-dough so even very young kids can work with it.  Here's a cute video of the kids "surprising" Maca with a few of the cupcakes.
